Sodium carbonate Sodium carbonate (also known as washing soda, soda ash and soda crystals), Na2CO3, is the water-soluble sodium salt of carbonic acid.It most commonly occurs as a crystalline heptahydrate, which readily effloresces to form a White powder, the monohydrate. Pure sodium carbonate is a white, odorless powder that is hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air). It has a strongly alkaline taste, and forms a moderately basic solution in water. Sodium carbonate is well known domestically for its everyday use as a water softener. It can be extracted from the ashes of many plants growing in sodium-rich soils, such as vegetation from the Middle East, kelp from Scotland and seaweed from Spain. Because the ashes of these sodium-rich plants were noticeably different from ashes of timber (used to create potash), they became known as “soda ash”. It is synthetically produced in large quantities from salt (sodium chloride) and limestone by a method known as the Solvay process. The manufacture of glass is one of the most important uses of sodium carbonate. Sodium carbonate acts as a flux for silica, lowering the melting point of the mixture to something achievable without special materials. This “soda glass” is mildly water-soluble, so some calcium carbonate is added to the melt mixture to make the glass produced insoluble. This type of glass is known as soda lime glass: “soda” for the sodium carbonate and “lime” for the calcium carbonate. Meropenem Sodium Carbonate Meropenem with sodium carbonate is a salt form of Meropenem, a β-lactam antibiotic of the carbapenem subclass that has been shown to inhibit penicillinase-negative, -positive and methicillin-susceptible staphylococci. This compound demonstrates the ability to also affect strains of 11 species of streptococci. Mechanistic studies suggest that Meropenem's antimicrobial activity is based on its high affinity for the majority of penicillin-binding proteins, which are cell wall-synthesizing enzymes. Meropenem is very effective because it resists inactivation by the majority of microbial LACTB (β-lactamases) as well as kidney dehydropeptidase I. Experiments have shown Meropenem to have a low toxicity profile and, in contrast to similar compounds, no central nervous system toxicity. Calcium Carbonate Nanoparticles Calcium carbonate appears as white, odorless powder or colorless crystals. Practically insoluble in water. Occurs extensive in rocks world-wide. Ground calcium carbonate (CAS: 1317-65-3) results directly from the mining of limestone. The extraction process keeps the carbonate very close to its original state of purity and delivers a finely ground product either in dry or slurry form. Cesium carbonate Caesium carbonate or cesium carbonate is a white crystalline solid compound. Caesium carbonate has a high solubility in polar solvents such as water, alcohol and DMF. Its solubility is higher in organic solvents compared to other carbonates like potassium and sodium carbonates, although it remains quite insoluble in other organic solvents such as toluene, p-xylene, and chlorobenzene. This compound is used in organic synthesis as a base. It also appears to have applications in energy conversion. Uses: Cesium carbonate (cs2co3) is used in the beer-brewing industry to make the "head" of beer foamier. it is also used in glassmaking and to enhance the taste of mineral water. Alternative Names: Carbonic acid dicesium. CAS No. 534-17-8. Molecular formula: CCs2O3. Mole weight: 325.82. Appearance: White powder. Purity: 99%+. IUPACName: Dicesium;carbonate. Canonical SMILES: C(=O)([O-])[O-].[Cs+].[Cs+]. Density: 4.072 g/mL at 25 °C (lit.). ECNumber: 208-591-9. Catalog: ACM534178. Alfa Chemistry.
