Poly(acrylic acid) Poly (acrylic acid) (PAA) is hygroscopic, brittle and colorless in nature with Tg at nearly 106oC. At temperatures above 200 to 250oC, it loses water and becomes an insoluble crosslinked polymer anhydride. Solubility of dried PAA in water increases with rise in temperatures. Concentrated solutions of PAA in water is thixotropic in nature. Uses: S of paa may include: to study solute diffusion in polyvinyl alcohol/paa copolymer hydrogel synthesizing poly(n-isopropylacrylamide)-block-paa copolymer which responds to both temperature and ph stimuli in preparing block copolymer of oligo (methyl methacrylate)/paa for micellar delivery of hydrophobic drugs as thickening agent for adhesives. Polyacrylic acid Poly(acrylic acid) (PAA or Carbomer) is generic name for synthetic high molecular weight polymers of acrylic acid. They may be homopolymers of acrylic acid, crosslinked with an allyl ether pentaerythritol, allyl ether of sucrose or allyl ether of propylene. In a water solution at neutral pH, PAA is an anionic polymer, i.e. many of the side chains of PAA will lose their protons and acquire a negative charge. This makes PAAs polyelectrolytes, with the ability to absorb and retain water and swell to many times their original volume. Dry PAAs are found in the market as white and fluffy powders. Uses: Iron & steel factories, chemical fertilizer plants, refineries, and air conditioning systems. Group: Polymers. Alternative Names: PAA Polymer. CAS No. 9003-1-4. Product ID: prop-2-enoic acid. Chemical Name: Poly(butyl methacrylate, (2-dimethylaminoethyl) methacrylate, methyl methacrylate) 1 : 2 : 1. Grade: Pharmceutical Excipients. Administration route: Oral. Dosage Form: Oral capsules and tablets. Stability and Storage Conditions: The polymer in dry powder state is stable at temperatures below 30°C. Above this temperature, the powder is easy to agglomerate, but this phenomenon does not affect the quality of the material, and the lumps are easy to crush. The polymer in dry powder state is stable for 3 years when stored in a sealed container at a temperature below 30°C. Aqueous dispersions are very sensitive to temperature and delamination occurs below 0°C. Therefore, the water dispersion should be transported and stored in a sealed container at a temperature of 5-25°C, and it is stable for at least 19 months after delivery from the manufacturer's warehouse. Source and Preparation: Polymerized from acrylic and methacrylic acid or their various esters. Applications: It can be used as film coating material; tablet binder; tablet diluent. Polyacrylic resins are mainly used… CD Formulation

Polyacrylonitrile PAN molecule has strong polar nitrile groups. It is relatively insoluble in nature. PAN based carbon fibers possess very high strength compared to other polymeric precursors. When subjected to heat treatment, it can produce high carbon yield giving rise to thermally stable, highly oriented, graphite like molecular structure. Generating carbon-fiber from PAN based fiber is a combination of three processes-- namely stabilization, carbonization and graphitization. Uses: Polyacrylonitrile (pan) is used as polymeric carbon precursor to form carbon fibers, electrospun activated carbon materials having meso-macro pores, carbon black additives.these are consecutively used in hydrogen storage, emi shielding, electrochemistry, separation processes. it may find s in pan based single walled carbon nanotube composites.
