anaerobic carbon-monoxide dehydrogenase This prokaryotic enzyme catalyses the reversible reduction of CO2 to CO. The electrons are transferred to redox proteins such as ferredoxin. In purple sulfur bacteria and methanogenic archaea it catalyses the oxidation of CO to CO2, which is incorporated by the Calvin-Benson-Basham cycle or released, respectively. In acetogenic and sulfate-reducing microbes it catalyses the reduction of CO2 to CO, which is incorporated into acetyl CoA by EC 2.3.1.169, CO-methylating acetyl CoA synthase, with which the enzyme forms a tight complex in those organisms. The enzyme contains five metal clusters per homodimeric enzyme: two nickel-iron-sulfur clusters called the C-Clusters, one [...-4S] clusters exist, presumably as part of the electron transfer chain. In purple sulfur bacteria the enzyme forms complexes with the Ni-Fe-S protein EC 1.12.7.2, ferredoxin hydrogenase, which catalyse the overall reaction: CO + H2O = CO2 + H2. cf. EC 1.2.5.3, aerobic carbon monoxide dehydrogenase. Group: Enzymes. Synonyms: Ni-CODH; carbon-monoxide dehydrogenase (ferredoxin). Enzyme Commission Number: EC 1.2.7.4. Bleomycin complex (as sulfate salts) Bleomycin is a complex of 11 glycopeptide antitumor antibiotics originally isolated from Streptomyces verticillus in 1972. The dominant components of the complex are bleomycin A2 and B2 and typically represent >90% of the total weight with the remainder comprising the minor analogues. Bleomycins have found clinical application in the treatment of a range of tumors. Bleomycins act by intercalation of DNA and RNA. In the presence of oxygen and metal ions, notably copper and iron, bleomycins form a pseudo- enzyme that induces DNA cleavage. Group: Biochemicals. Alternative Names: Blenoxane; Blexane; Bleo. Holmium(III) fluoride Dysprosium is most commonly used as in Neodymium-iron-boron high strength permanent magnets. While it has one of the highest magnetic moments of any of the rare earths (10.6uB), this has not resulted in an ability to perform on its own as a practical alternative to Neodymium compositions. It is however now an essential additive in NdFeB production. It is also used in special ceramic compositions based on BaTiO formulations. Dysprosium is used, in conjunction with Vanadium and other elements, in making laser materials and commercial lighting. Nanofibers of Dysprosium compounds have high strength and large surface area. Therefore, they can be used to reinforce other materials and as a catalyst. Recent research has examined the use of Dysprosium in Dysprosium-iron-garnet (DyFeG) and silicon implanted with Dysprosium and Holmium to form donor centers. Dysprosium Metal is an important additive for NdFeB permanent magnets to raise the Curie temperature and improve temperature coefficiency. Another most promising use of high purity Dysprosium Metal is in the magnetostrictive alloy TEFENOL-D. There are also other applications for some special master alloys. It is highly susceptible to magnetization, they are employed in various data-storage applications, such as in hard disks. Group: Metal & ceramic materials.
